Dungeon of Chaos

A medium-paced hard-core 2D dungeon crawler inspired by the Dark Souls genre. Fight your way through an orcish horde, an army of skeletons and other monsters creeping inside the dungeon. You can choose to fight them with your sword, your magic, or even use both.

Project Development

The game was developed as an university team project during the Computer Games Development graduate studies at Charles University. We defended the project with the highest grade, thanks to a complexity of the game and thorough documentations (both software and design).


The core team consisted of 3 people plus we had an external artist:

  • Jiri Filek - lead programmer

  • Martina Fuskova - game designer, sound designer, programmer

  • Shivam Sharma - programmer, UI programmer, VFX artist

  • Arya Harshwardhan - artist and animator

Responsibilities

  • Leading the design of the core game mechanics which were done in collaboration with the whole team

  • Designing and implementing the character progression through stats and skills which was one of the main pillars of the game. Creating and implementing the VFX of the skills using Unity Particle System and All In 1 Sprite Shader

  • Designing the enemies and their attacks. Collaborating with the enemy programmer on the behaviour of the enemies and timing of the attacks

  • Designing dungeon objects to aid the character progression or to increase challenge

  • Collaborating with the programmer responsible for the procedural generation of the dungeons on level design. Placing enemies and objects inside the dungeons to create an enjoyable flow

  • Balancing the skills, enemies and their attacks in order to create a challenging experience

  • Taking responsibility for the sound design and soundtrack design. Finding, editing and connecting SFX. Generating the soundtracks using AIVA

  • Holding a small playtesting session that aided in the final polish of the game

  • Writing a detailed game design document according to the university requirements: GDD

  • Creatingd wireframes for all UI screens and elements. Collaborating with the UI artist and UI programmer on the final implementation

  • Implementing the dungeon objects tied to the character progression

  • Implementing the UI for character progression
